CHAPTER 227.

CHAP. 228.

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to authorise the
Messrs. Shafers', of Washington County, to dispose
of their property by lot.

Passed Mar. 23,
1839.

WHEREAS, from various causes beyond their control,
the Messrs. Shafers' have been unable to draw their
lottery, at the time proposed; And whereas, this
Legislature is fully satisfied of their ability, obliga-
tions and willingness, to refund the money already
paid for tickets, if desired, under the provisions of a
deed of trust executed to Alexander Neill, Sen., and
William C. Drury, conveying to them certain proper-
ty, which is the foundation of the scheme; And where-
as, this Legislature is satisfied that it would be ruinous
to them to make drawing, in its present condition, be-
cause of the small number of tickets sold and expenses
already incurred; —Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the act to which this is a further additional sup-
plement. be and the same is hereby continued in force,
until the first day of March in the year Eighteen hun-
dred and forty,

CHAPTER 228.

1st March, 1840.

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to authorise the
erection of a Bridge over the Patuxent River, at
Brown's Ford, in Anne Arundel and Montgomery
Counties, and for extending the roads leading thereto.

1839.

WHEREAS, it appears by the petition of the commis-
sioners appointed to contract for, superintend and di-
rect the building of a bridge over the Patuxent river,
at, or near Brown's Ford, in Anne Arundel and
Montgomery counties, that the levy authorized to de-
fray the cost and charge of erecting said bridge was
insufficient: — Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners of Anne Arundel county, and
the commissioners for Montgomery county, are author-
ised and directed to make an additional levy of twen-
ty dollars, on the assessable property of each of their
