Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall remain in
force until the end of the year eighteen hundred and forty-
four and no longer.

CHAPTER 70.

 

An act supplementary to an act entitled, an act for the
incorporation of the Grand Lodge of the State of Mary-
land of the Order of Independent Odd Fellows, passed
December session eighteen hundred and thirty-two.

Passed Feb.
3, 1841.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the style and title of the Grand Lodge incorporated
by the act to which this act is a supplement, shall and
hereby is declared to be the Grand Lodge of Maryland of
the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and that so much
of the act to which this a supplement as is inconsistent here-
with, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Repealed.

CHAPTER 71.

 

An act for the benefit of Philip Clayton, collector of taxes
for the city of Annapolis.

8, 1844.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Philip Clayton, collector of taxes for the
city of Annapolis, for the years eighteen hundred and forty,
eighteen hundred and forty-one, eighteen hundred and forty-
two, and eighteen hundred and forty-three, be and he is
hereby authorised and empowered to collect any taxes, or
balance of taxes, now remaining due, and uncollected by
him. in said city, in the same manner, and with the same
powers and privileges as are allowed by the existing laws
in such cases made and provided.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Philip Clayton,
shall in every instance, before he shall proceed to the afore-
said collection, make affidavit before some justice of the
peace of said county, or before the mayor, recorder or one
of the alderman of said city, that the taxes remain due and
unpaid, and that he hath not received any security or satis-
faction for the same or any part thereof, more than the cre-
dits which may be allowed thereon.
