power is hereby reserved to the State of Maryland, here-
after to regulate the tolls and reduce the same at the plea-
sure of the legislature.

CHAP. 361.
|
Sec. 4. And be it also enacted, That nothing in this
act shall be construed to operate as a release of the obliga-
tion on the part of said company to keep in repair the bridge
built by said company over the Gunpowder Falls, and the
road between said bridge and the tenth mile stone, and also
that three miles of the road, as now located beyond the
tenth mile stone, shall be considered such a part of the
road as shall entitle those persons living on or adjacent to
said road, within three miles of said gate to an exemption
from paying any toll for passing the said gate more than
once in twenty-four hours, and also, that from and after the
passage of this act, and acceptance of it by said company,
the tolls now authorised by their original charter shall be
reduced ten per centum.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the legislature hereby
reserves the right to change modify or repeal at any time,
this supplement or the act or acts to which this is a supple-
ment or either of them, and that said company shall have
no more toll gates, nor at any other place or places than they
now have.

An act to incorporate the Carroll and Frederick county
Mutual Insurance Company.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Jncob Landes, James Pearre, David W.
Naill, Levi Devilbiss, Philip Sneader, David Engel of P.
Jacob Sneader, Daniel Engle, David Engel, Samuel
Ecker and Ludwick Baile, and all others who may be-
come members of said company in the manner hereinaf-
ter provided, be and they are hereby made a body corpo-
rate and politic, by the name of the Carroll and Freder-
ick county Mutuni Insurance Company, for the purpose of
insuring their respective dwelling houses, stores, shops
and other buildings, household furniture and merchandize,
against loss or damage by fire, whether the same shall
happen by accident, lightning or by any other means, ex-
cept that of design in the insured, or by invasion of an
enemy, or insurrection of the citizens of the United
