CHAPTER 305.

CHAP 306.

An act relating to the inspection of Tobacco In the city of
Baltimore.

Passed March
8, 1844.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That whenever so large an amount of inspected
tobacco shall have accummulated in the warehouses, as
necessarily to delay the inspections, the inspectors be and
they are hereby authorised and required, to remove and
store out of the warehouses, so much of the same as may

be necessary, to give place for the the uninspected tobacco.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That on all tobacco inspected
and delivered for shipment, the inspectors of the State
Tobacco Warehouses, shall receive and pay into the Trea-
sury one dollar and twenty-five cents per hogshead on all
hogsheads not exceeding one thousand weight, and all hogs-
heads weighing more than one thousand weight, shall be
subject to the additional charge of twelve and a half cents,

Sec. 3. Be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
inspectors of the several Tobacco Warehouses to appoint
some competent white person to act as weighing clerk,
whose duty it shall be to weigh all tobacco and tobacco
casks that may be received and inspected at the warehouse
in which he shall be employed, and this duty shall be per-
formed by no other person, under a penalty of one hundred
dollars, to be paid by the inspector, unless in case of sick-
ness, when it shall be. the duty of the inspector to appoint

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the compensation of
the clerk appointed as provided in the third section of this
act, shall be one dollar and fifty cents per day.

CHAPTER 306.

 

An act for the erection of gates upon a public road in
Montgomery county, therein mentioned.

Passed March
8, 1844.

Whereas it is represented to this legislature by the
petition of sundry citizens, that the commissioners of Mont-
gomery county, passed an order directing the superviser J.
S. Manakee, to remove the gates from a public road located
in said county, running from the Westminister road, near
