of such execution, a fair account in writing, of the taxes
demanded of him, her or them, and an affidavit thereto an-;
nexed, that he hath not directly, or indirectly received any
part thereof, or any thing in security or satisfaction for the
same, more than the credits given to the best of his know-
ledge.

 

CHAPTER 42.

An act authorising the Levy Court of Frederick County,
in their discretion, to levy a sum of money to indemnify a
certain Michael Snell, against loss, for building a Bridge
over the River Monocacy at a fording place Devilbis's
Ford.

Make inqui-
ry, &c.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mart/land,
Thai the levy court of Frederick county be authorised to
institute a strict inquiry into the ments of the claim of a
certain Michael Snell, for losses sustained by him in the
building of a bridge over the river Monocacy, at a place
called Devilbis's Ford, so far as they were occasioned by
deviations from the terms of his contract indispensable to
the proper construction of said bridge, and if the result of
said enquiry shall satisfy said court, that justice requires
further compensation to be made to said Snell, the said
court shall levy in two equal annual levies upon the assess-
able property of said county, such compensation, not ex-
ceeding in the whole, one thousand dollars, as may be al-

lowed by said court; provided, that no allowance whatever
shall be made, if the court shall be satisfied that the bridge
could without risk of its safety from floods of water, have
been constructed under the conditions of the contract of
said Snell.

Maryland, That William Reitz, William Weiber and
others, their associates, who now are or may hereafter be-
