CHAP. 40.

them, shall or may appertain to do.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act be
construed so as to authorise, the said corporation to issue
any note, token, device, scrip or other evidence of debt,
to be used as currency.

SEC. 4. A; id be it enacted, That this act of incorpoti-
on shall enure for thirty years from its passage, and that
the legislature reserves to itself the right to alter and annul
this act of incorporation at pleasure.

An act for the relief of John N. Bowland, former Sheriff
and Collector of Somerset County.

allowed.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John IV. Howland, late sheriff and collector of So-
merset county, be, and he is hereby authorised and em-
powered to collect and receive all and any balance or
amount of officers fees, chancery taxes, and fines and for-
feitures and county taxes, which may be due to the said
John N. Howland, as sheriff and collector aforesaid, in the
same, manner and with the same powers and privileges as
are now allowed by law, and in the same manner and to
the same effect as if the term of office of the said John N.
Bowland as sheriff and collector as aforesaid had not yet

expired; provided, that if any person against whom there is
a claim by said John N. Bowland, for officers fees, chan-
cery taxes, fines and forfeitures, or county taxes as afore-
said, shall make affidavit before any justice of the peace of
said county, that he or she believes the same to be unjust,
or that the. same had been paid at any previous time to the
person claiming the same, it shall forever bar such claims;
and provided, that nothing in this act shall be construed to
effect the estate of any deceased person, and provided also,
that this act shall only continue in force for one year from
its passage.
