CHAP. 295.

said assessment so that the same may be uniform through-
out the state, and so much of the third section of the origi-
nal act as requires the treasurer to prepare and furnish each
assessor with instructions as to the manner of his duties be
and the same is hereby repealed.

Levy court to
fix compensa-
tion.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the compensation of the
assessors shall be fixed by the respective levy courts, com-
missioners or the mayor and city council of Baltimore as
required by the fifteenth section of the original act, and
upon a certificate thereof being presented to the treasurer,
he shall pay the amount to the person or persons entitled
thereto, out of any money that may be collected from
such county, district or city, under this and the said origi-
nal act, and he shall also pay in like manner, such sum or
sums as the levy court, commissioners or the mayor and
city council of Baltimore shall certify to be due to the as-
sessors who may have performed their duties under the
said original act.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That (be said treasurer shall
pay in like manner to the several collectors appointed under
the said act, such commission as may be allowed by the re-
spective levy courts, commissioners or the mayor and city
council of Baltimore.

One fourth of
the tax to be
paid by the 1st
of December.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the thirteenth section of
the said act is hereby so amended as to require one-fourth
of the said tax to be paid into the treasury on or before the
first day of December next, and the residue thereof on or
before the first day of June eighteen hundred and forty
four, and semi-annually at the rime days in every year
thereafter.

CHAPTER 295.

An act concerning the Annapolis and Elk-Ridge Rail Road
Company.

Company to
surrender up
bonds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Annapolis and Elk-Ridge Rail Road
Company, be and they are hereby authorized and empow-
ered to surrender up, anil deliver to the city of Annapolis,
such and so many of the bonds or certificates of the stock
of the said city, which either now or may hereafter be un-
der the control and in the possession of the said Annapolis
and Elk-Ridge Rail Road Company, and which were issued
to the said Annapolis and Elk-Ridge Rail Road Company in
