generally to manage the state and concerns of the said aca-
demy in such manner as they shall deem best for the advan-
tage of the institution.

CHAP. 171.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contain-
ed shall be so construed as to authorise or empower said
corporation to issue any note, token, device, scrip or other
evidence of debt, to be used as currency.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contained
shall be so construed as to deny the right of the legislature
to repeal this grant at pleasure.

CHAPTER 171.

 

An act for the incorporation of the Washington Lodge,
number one, of the Order of Independent Odd Fellows
of the State of Maryland.

Passed Feb.
20, 1843.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Seth Pollard, Jacob Mearis, Joseph
O. Boyd, John H. Ing, John C. Holland, Richard Mason,
James L. Camps, William B. Howard, Philip A. Smick,
N. M. Gorsuch, Peregrine Gorsuch, James Cesil, John Mi
Welch, Thomas Fisher, William N. Harrison, Noah R.
Collins, George J. Kenrard, Frederick Hawkins, C. Ma-
gers Cole, William H. Walker, John M. Jordan, James
Hooper, Lewis Pendel, William Bailey, John Griffith,
Hugh J. Monison, Moses Pettit and William B. Hiser, the
officers and members of the Washington Lodge number one,
of the Order of Independent Odd Fellows of the State of
Maryland, and their successors, be and they are hereby de-
clared to be a community, corporation and body politic, by
the name, style and title of The Washington Lodge number
one, of the Order of Independent Odd Fellows of the State
of Maryland, and by that name they and their successors
shall and may at all times hereafter he capable in law to
have, receive and retain to them and their successors, pro-
perty real and personal, and also devisees or bequest of any
person or persons, body corporate or politic, capable of
making the same, and the same at their pleasure to transfer
or dispose of in such manner as they may think proper;

Incorporation.

provided always, that the said corporation or body politic
shall not at any time hold or possess property real, per-
sonal or mixed, exceeding in annual value the sum of five
thousand dollars.
