ized and required to allow to the assessors appointed by the
authority of this act, a reasonable compensation to be paid
out of the proceeds of the tax, thus directed to be levied
and paid by this act for their services, and they ate hereby
authorized and required to give the collection of the tax in-
tended to be levied by this act, to the collectors of the tax
levied by the act referred to in the eight section of this act,
under such directions, restriction, commissions and penalties
as are therein provided for.

Sec. 16. And be it enacted, That all the powers vested
in the collector of taxes for the city of Baltimore, by the
acts of Assembly and ordinances of said city are hereby
vested in the collector of taxes of said city in relation to
State taxes, and that the said collector in his discretion may
coerce the payment of taxes by distraint or otherwise,
whenever in his opinion it may be necessary.

Fines—how
collected.

Sec. 17. And be it enacted, That all fines and forfeitures
imposed by this act, the recovery of which is not hereinbe-
fore provided for, shall be recoverable by indictment in the
county court of the proper county or of Howard district, in
which the person so offending may reside or in Baltimore
city court, if the person resides in the city of Baltimore,
and one half thereof shall be paid to the informer, and the
other hall' to the treasurer of the western shore for the use
of the State.

 

CHAPTER 326.

An act to protect the rights of Floating Batteries at the
Head of Chesapeake Bay.

Fine of twen-
ty dollars.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That if any vessel, float of timber or plank of
any other materials and of any description or kind soever
or boat of any description, unless compelled by stress of
weather, or other unavoidable accidents, shall be anchored
or stayed in the usual haul of any floating battery anchored
between Spesutia Island and Point Concord in the Chesa-
peake Hay, for the purpose of fishing at any time between
the first of April and the twentieth of May in every year,
and remain thus anchored for the space of half an hour,
when the weather will admit of the departure of such vessel,
float or boat after being ordered to depart therefrom, by
the owner or occupier of such floating battery, the skipper,
owner or owners commanding such vessel, float or boats,
