CHAPTER 223.

An act for the benefit of James Carroll of Talbot County.

Benefit of
James Carroll

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners for Talbot county, be and they are
hereby authorized and empowered at their discretion, to
levy on the assessable property of said county, at their next
levy, and annually thereafter, the sum of twenty dollars for
the use and benefit of James Carroll, an indigent citizen of
said county.

An act to allow Joseph Graham, former Sheriff of Talbot
County, further time to complete his Collections.

Time exten-
ded.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Joseph Graham, Former sheriff of Talbot county, and
his deputies, or any agent by him appointed, be and they are
hereby authorized and empowered, to collect and receive
all and every balance or amount of officers fees, fines and
forfeitures, and all other sums that may be due and owing to
the said Graham, as sheriff as aforesaid, or to his deputies in
the same manner and to the same extent, as if the term of of-
fice of the said Graham, as sheriff as aforesaid, had not ex-

pired; provided, that if any person against whom their is a
claim by said Graham as sheriff, as aforesaid, or either of
his deputies shall make affidavit before a justice of the peace
of said county, that the same has been paid, at any previous
time, to any person authorized to receive the same, it shall
prevent the said Graham and his deputies from collecting
the said claim, in the manner prescribed by law for collect-
ing such claims; and provided also, that nothing in this act
contained, shall be construed to affect the estate of a de-
ceased person, except to authorize the said Graham or his
deputies, to receive any claim or balance clue by a deceased
person, in the same manner that claims against deceased
persons are now recovered by law; and provided also, that
this act shall continue in force for one year from its passage.
