CHAP. 176.

trustees for the purposes therein mentioned, and such other
trustees as may be appointed or elected by the congrega-
tion of said church, are hereby authorized and empowered
to have and to hold the said property to themselves and their
successors and assigns, for the purposes declared in said
deed or deeds or conveyances.

successors in their capacity of trustees, are hereby authoriz-
ed and empowered to hold, by gift, devise, bequest or pur-

An act to incorporate the Trustees of Union Academy, in
Carroll County.

Incorporated.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That George Rinedollar, David Mering, Adam
King, John Keglo, James McAlister, Samuel Rinedollar,
Daniel Mering, be appointed trustees of the Union Acade-
my, in Carroll county, and their successors, to be appointed
as hereinafter directed, shall forever hereafter, be and they
are hereby declared to be one body, corporate and politic
with succession in deed and law, by the name and style of

the Union Academy, by which name and style the said
trustees and their successors, shall be capable in law and in
equity, to hold property, the value of which shall at no
time exceed five thousand dollars, for said academy.

Vacancies—

Sec 2. And be it enacted, That if a vacancy occur in
the board of trustees, the same shall be filled by the re-
maining trustees until the next annual election of the same.

Election of
officers.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That on the first Monday of
January in every year, or within ten days thereafter, an
election shall be held by the qualified voters at the acade-
my, which said election shall be by ballot, and conducted
as Follows, to wit: every subscriber to said institution shall
be allowed one vote For each dollar by him subscribed, and
one vote only For any sum less than one dollar; the five per-
sons having a majority of the votes shall be declared the

trustees for the ensuing year; provided, that no person but a
subscriber shall be a trustee; and provided, that no subscriber
shall be entitled to more than five votes for a subscription
