VALUATION AND ASSESSMENT OF PROPERTY

IN THIS STATE— Mayor and city council of Baltimore

to appoint collector of tax for said city, to

give bond, &c., provision for the appoint-

ment of others, &c., their compensation,

&c.,

The several collectors to proceed to the

Collection with all convenient dispatch, so

that one-fourth part, at the least, may be

collected before the first day of March,

1842, one other fourth part on the first

days of June, September and December,

same year; and in the collection thereof,

the levy courts, etc., collectors to exercise

all the powers they now exercise in the col-

lection of taxes for county or city purposes,

The collector for the city of Balti-

more, shall on the first Monday in March,

and monthly thereafter, and of every other

collector on the first day in March, June,

September and December next succeeding

his appointment, to account with and pay

over to the Treasurer for his Shore, all mo-

nies collected, to be entitled to commis-

sion not less than three nor more than six per

cent., &c., except where the compensation

is hereinbefore provided for; collector of

the city of Baltimore to receive two per

cent., upon his collections, &c.,

In case of failure of collector to pay into

Treasury the amount of money in his hands

as aforesaid, etc., within one month after

the time for payment, he shall be charged

with interest at the rate of six per centum,

from the time the money became payable,

and if he fail to make payment for the

space of three months after due, he shall

not be entitled to any commission on said

money thereafter paid into the Treasury;

and Treasurers of the Western and Eastern

Shores, as the case may be, may transmit
