WILLIAM GRA8ON, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

1840.

fire-wood on any wharf in the city of Baltimore, unless
such person or persons shall have obtained from the Mayor
and City Council a permit or license for that purpose; and
the said Mayor and City Council are hereby authorised and
directed to charge for said permit or license, any sum of
money they may deem expedient, not less than at the rate
of ten dollars for each front foot of wharf, to be specified
in said permit or license.

CHAP. 191.

Charge for li-
cense limited.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act shall
be so construed as to prevent masters and owners of ves-
sels from selling or retailing wood as heretofore, without
any license or permit whatever.

Owners or mas-
ters of vessels
exempt.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all monies collected by
virtue of the first section of this act, after deducting the
expenses for the collection thereof, and twenty-five per cen-
tum for the use of the said Mayor and City Council, shall
be paid over to the Treasurer of the Western Shore, if
said licenses be granted for the use of the State.

Money receiv-
ed: how applied.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That any person or persons
who shall violate the provisions of this act, shall upon con-
viction, be fined by any court of law having jurisdiction
thereof, lor each and every violation, the sum of one hun-
dred dollars, one half for the benefit, of the State, and the
other half to the person or persons who shall prosecute the
same to effect.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That no permit or license au-
thorised by this act, shall be in force for a. longer period
than one year.

CHAPTER 191.

License to be
renewed yearly.

An, act to incorporate the Trustees of the Methodist Epis-
copal Church in Quaker Neck, in Kent County, and for
other purposes.

Passed Feb. 23,

1841.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That James H. Edes, Thomas Baker, Arthur
M. Merritt, Richard Start, Edward Wilkins, James Wil-
kins and Casparus M. Riley, and their successors to be ap-
pointed according; to the rules and discipline of the Metho-
dist Episcopal Church, are hereby created and declared a

the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Quaker
