CHAPTER 331
(House Bill 139)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments Section
1189 of the Montgomery County Code (1947 edition), be-
ing Section 1295 of the Prince George's County Code (1943
edition), as amended, being also Article 16 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland as amended, and being
also Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land as amended, providing for the election of a Mayor
and seven Councilmen, their terms of office, and their
qualifications and the areas from which they shall be
elected, and providing for the qualifications of voters in
municipal elections; providing for the acquisition and use
of voting machines or the use of paper ballots in the poll-
ing place or places in the City of Takoma Park; providing
for the form of ballot labels to be used on said voting
machines and the form of the ballots if paper ballots are
used; providing for the duties of election officers; provid-
ing for assistance to voters and regulating the time during
which a voter may occupy a voting machine or booth; pro-
viding for the preparation and return of statements of
votes cast; providing for the sealing of voting machines
and the preservation of paper ballots after the votes have
been tabulated; providing for the filing of statements of
votes cast in the office of the City Clerk; providing for
the use of paper ballots where the use of voting machines
may become impracticable; providing the penalties for
offenses under this section; providing the manner of
nominating the Mayor and Councilmen; providing the
manner in which elections shall be conducted; repealing
all laws conflicting herewith.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1189 of the Montgomery County Code
(1947 Edition) being Section 1295 of the Prince George's
County Code (1943 Edition) as amended, being also Article
16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland and being,
also Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land both as amended, be, and the same is, hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(A) Every resident of said City whose name shall be cer-
tified to the Mayor and Council under the provisions of the
next succeeding section of this Charter shall be entitled to
vote in the municipal elections in the said City, and no per-
