of member who ceases to be a member on account of the
transfer of the place of employment or occupation to the
United States for war purposes.
WHEREAS, an employee of the Military Department worked
continuously at Camp Ritchie from 1927 until Camp Ritchie
was made available to the United States for war purposes;
and
WHEREAS, the above-mentioned employee ceased to be an
employee 'of the State but continued doing the same kind of
work for the United States; and
WHEREAS,, the said employee has returned to employment
by the State, but due to the separation from State employ-
ment for approximately five years through no fault or desire
on his part, he has lost his right to credit for prior service
for approximately fifteen years prior to the war; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to correct this injustice; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 3(6) of Article 73B of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Pensions", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

(6) Should any member in any period of six consecutive
years after last becoming a member be absent from service
more than two years, or should he withdraw all or part of
his accumulated contributions, or should he become a bene-
ficiary or die, he shall thereupon cease to be a member; pro-
vided, however, that any member who was absent from service
for more than two years on account of the transfer or lease to
the United States of the facility or property where said mem-
ber was employed and who continued to work at the same
place as an employee of the United States until the return of
the property to the State after the war, when he again became
an employee of the State, shall be entitled to credit for all
service as an employee of the State before he became an em-
ployee of the United States as hereinbefore described and his
prior service certificate shall again become effective as if he
had not ceased to be an employee of the State.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
