1. 912 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

WHEREAS, the experience of three hundred years has vindi-
cated the far-seeing wisdom of that principle in that it has
delivered both the faith and the State from the ills and strife
of religious conflict; and

WHEREAS, in many lands men and women still suffer under
law for conscience sake, it is both appropriate and timely for
those who enjoy the fruits of freedom of worship to consider
well their precious privilege, to value it, and ever be alert to
preserve, practice and defend it; and, therefore, be it

Resolved, first, that the General Assembly of Maryland, in
1949, reaffirm its devotion to the principle of religious free-
dom as embodied in and developed from the Act of 1649;
and be it further

Resolved, second, that the Governor of Maryland be invited
to issue his proclamation reminding the people of the ap-
proaching tercentenary of the Act Concerning Religion and
calling upon them to solemnize the date with appropriate cere-
monies rededicating themselves and their State to the estab-
lished American principle of religious freedom and giving
thanks for this precious heritage.

NO. 21

(Senate Joint Resolution 4)

Joint Resolution requesting the State Roads Commission of
Maryland to name and designate U. S. Route 301 as the
Blue Star Memorial Highway.

WHEREAS, the National Council of State Garden Clubs has
undertaken a program for improving a highway through
numerous states to be known as the Blue Star Memorial High-
way; and

WHEREAS, the particular proposal under consideration at
the present time is a highway extending at least from New
York to Florida, to be designated as the "Blue Star Memorial
Highway" on the Eastern Coast; and

WHEREAS, U. S. Route 301 has been agreed upon as being
the proper highway to be designated as the Blue Star Memorial
Highway; now, therefore be it
