1720 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 702

(d) Any member of the Fire Department who shall become
unfit for service therein by reason of sickness, disability or
accident not arising in the line of duty, and who shall have
served less than twenty-five (25) years as a member of the
Fire Department, but not less than ten (10) years therein,
shall be entitled to receive a pension beginning at the expira-
tion of six (6) months from the date of his suspension as a
member of the Fire Department where said suspension is due
to sickness, disability or accident not arising in the line of
duty. Said pension shall be computed by using the actual
number of years of said service of said member as the
numerator, and the figure 25 as the denominator and divid-
ing said sum into an amount equal to fifty (50) percent
of the average annual wage of said member, and the quo-
tient thereby obtained shall be the amount of the pension
which shall be paid, but no pension in any amount shall be
paid during or for the six months waiting period.

(e) It shall be the duty of the Chief of the Fire Depart-
ment to report to the governing body any member of the Fire
Department who shall become disabled for further service
by reason of sickness, disability or accident not arising out of
or in the course of performance of duty. The Board shall there-
upon designate a reputable physician to make a thorough
examination of said member, and if said member be found by
said physician to be unfit for active service in said depart-
ment, the Board shall order a pension to be paid and the
Board shall order said member to be retired. Said retire-
ment shall be compulsory, and the member shall be entitled
to receive a pension pursuant to and consistent with the rules
and regulations hereinbefore set forth. Any member who
shall refuse or neglect to present -himself to the physician
designated by the Board to be examined shall have all of his
pension rights suspended, and they shall remain suspended
for a period of six (6) months to be computed from the time
that he did present himself for such examination.

(f) Any member of the Fire Department who shall have
served less than twenty-five (25) years but not less than ten
(10) years, who shall sustain an accidental injury arising out
of the performance of his duties as a member of the Fire De-
partment, and who shall be permanently incapacitated by
reason of said injury, shall be entitled immediately upon the
full and final payment of all compensation payments to him,
to receive a pension in accordance with these rules and regu-
lations and no waiting period shall be required.

143. FUND, (a) The proceeds of the Fire Department
Pension Fund as hereby created shall consist of:
