tectural and engineering assistance incident thereto, for the
acquisition of a site for said fire engine house, for the equip-
ping of said fire engine house, and for the purchase of one
modern fire truck and equipment pertaining thereto.

SEC. 2A. And be it further enacted^ That the Mayor and
City Council of Hyattsville may purchase a parcel of land
within the corporate limits of said City of such size and at
such location as said Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville
may deem necessary as a site for said fire engine house, or,
failing to agree with the owner or owners thereof, may con-
demn the same in fee simple by proceedings in the Circuit
Court for Prince George's County in the manner provided in
Article 33A of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland
relating to Eminent Domain.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not
become effective unless and until it shall have been submitted
to the qualified voters of the City of Hyattsville at a referen-
dum conducted by the Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville
at the regular election to be held in May 1949 or at a special
referendum election to be held for such purpose within three
(3) months after said regular election. Said referendum
shall be conducted under the provisions of existing law for
the election of City officers, and the manner of submission of
the question to the voters shall be by printing upon the
ballots the words "For $100, 000. 00 bond issue to construct
and equip fire engine house, acquire site, and purchase one
fire truck and equipment" with a blank square opposite
thereto on the right thereof, and the words "Against $100, -
000. 00 bond issue to construct and equip fire engine house,
acquire site, and purchase one fire truck and equipment" with
a blank square opposite thereto on the right thereof. If at
such referendum election a greater number of qualified voters
shall vote "For $100, 000. 00 bond issue to construct and equip
fire engine house, acquire site, and purchase one fire truck
and equipment" by placing a cross mark (x) in the square
opposite thereto than shall vote "Against $100, 000. 00 bond
issue to construct and equip fire engine house, acquire site,
and purchase one fire truck and equipment" by placing a
cross mark (x) in the square opposite thereto, then the pro-
visions of the foregoing Act shall immediately become opera-
tive and in full force and effect, otherwise the provisions of
this Act shall be void and of no effect.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
