(b) Rubber on Solid Tires Must Not be Less Than 1 Inch
Thick. Nor shall any such vehicle be operated at any time on
any such tires when the rubber thereon is less than one inch
in thickness, nor where a uniform cross-section of -the tire
is not maintained.

SEC. 2. And be it farther enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1945.

CHAPTER 677.

(House Bill 401)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 85
; of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943 Sup-
plement), title "Elections", sub-title "Nominations", relat-
ing to nomination of candidates for public office by certifi-
cate of nomination signed by a specified number of signers,
in lieu of convention or primary election, to provide that
when the nomination is for the office of Alderman of the
City of Annapolis the number of signatures so required
shall be two hundred.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 85 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Elections", sub-title
"Nominations", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, so as to read as follows:

85. A candidate for public office, including candidates for
the office of United States Senator from Maryland, may be
nominated otherwise than by a convention or primary election
in the manner following: A certificate of nomination contain-
ing the names of a candidate for office to be filled with such in-
formation as is required to be given in certificate provided for
in Section 84 of this Article, with the additional statement that
the persons signing the same intend to vote for the person nomi-
nated thereby shall be signed by voters in numbers as follows
residing in the political division in and for which the officer is
to be elected—that is to say: The number of signatures so
required shall not be less than two thousand when the nomina-
tion is for an office to be filled by an election participated in
by the voters of the entire State, and not less than fifteen hun-
dred when the nomination is for an office to be filled by an
election to be participated in by the voters of an entire Con-
gressional district or of the City of Baltimore, and not less
than seven hundred and fifty when the nomination is for an
