CHAPTER 519.
(Senate Bill 114)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 758, 759, 760 and 761 of Article 27
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title
"Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Department of Cor-
rection", and to enact in lieu thereof four new sections
to be known as Sections 758? 759, 760 and 760A of said
Article, to follow immediately after Section 757 of said
Article, changing the name of the Maryland State Penal
Farm to "Maryland State Reformatory for Males", and au-
thorizing the courts to commit thereto male offenders from
sixteen (16) years to twenty-five (25) years of age, both
inclusive, for indeterminate periods of time, not to exceed
the term of imprisonment provided by law; authorizing the
Board of Correction to employ the necessary personnel to
maintain and operate said institution and said Board of
Correction to recommend to the Director of Parole and Pro-
bation for parole persons serving indeterminate sentences in
said Reformatory, such paroled persons to be under the
supervision and control of the Director of Parole and Pro-
bation; authorizing said Board to transfer male offenders
of any age from other penal institutions to said Reformatory,
and to transfer incorrigible and unmanageable offenders
from said Reformatory to other institutions, providing for
the Severability of the various provisions of this Act, and
repealing all other laws inconsistent herewith to the extent
of the inconsistency.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 758, 759, 760 and 761 of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Crimes
and Punishments", sub-title "Department of Correction", be
and the same are hereby repealed, and that four new sections
be and the same are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to be known
as Sections 758, 759, 760 and 760A, to follow immediately
after Section 757 of said Article, said new sections to read
as follows: ,

758. The institution established under the provisions of
Chapter 366 of the Acts of 1931, known as the "Maryland State
Penal Farm" shall hereafter be known as the "Maryland State
Reformatory for Males", and shall be a place of confinement
and training for male offenders from sixteen (16) years to
twenty-five (25) years of age, both inclusive. The courts of
the State, instead of imposing sentences of fixed duration in
other institutions upon such offenders, may, in their discretion,
sentence them to said Reformatory for an indeterminate period
