CHAPTER 214.

(Senate Bill 270)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
8 of Article 24 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Worcester County, " sub-
title "Berlin, " relating to the qualifications of the Mayor
and City Councilmen.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8 of Article 24 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Worcester
County, " sub-title "Berlin, " be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

8. The corporate authority, government, rights, powers
and privileges of the said town shall be vested in and
exercised by a Mayor and five Councilmen to be selected
as hereinafter provided, who shall be owners of real estate
located within the corporate limits and assessed on the
Town's books for five hundred dollars or more, and who are
qualified voters of said Town twelve months next preceding
their election, and their term of office shall be as hereinafter
provided, or until their successors are elected and qualified,
But no person shall be eligible either as mayor or council-
man unless he shall file, not less than ten (10) days before
said election with the Secretary of the Mayor and Council, a
certificate in writing, containing the name and address of
the person seeking office^ and the office to which he seeks
to be elected, such certificate to be duly acknowledged, and
no votes cast for any person failing to file such certificate
shall be counted in such election.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1945.
