receive a sergeant's compensation and to perform such duties
as the Commissioner shall prescribe.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 894 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition),
title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Examiners", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
894. (a) The Police Commissioner is hereby authorized and
empowered to appoint in his discretion one or more Police-
women to the police force of Baltimore City, with full power
to such Policewomen to act as conservators of the peace and
perform such other duties as the Commissioner may prescribe
and to be subject in all respects to such rules and regulations
as the Police Commissioner may from time to time adopt, and
the said Commissioner shall have the power to remove any
Policewoman appointed by him for the violation of any rule
or regulation of the said Commissioner. The salary of a Police-
woman so appointed under the authority of this Act shall be
the same as that provided for patrolmen in Section 875 of this
Article, including the additional compensation for service, the
said salary Jo be paid by the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more, and shall be included in the annual estimate of expenses
by said Police Commissioner certified to the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore.
(b) The Police Commissioner shall appoint one Policewoman
to be head of all Policewomen and to have the rank of sergeant.
Such Policewomen shall receive the same salary and compensa-
tion as other sergeants and shall perform such duties as the
Police Commissioner shall prescribe.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

AN ACT to add one new section to Article 4 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter
(1938 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police
Commissioner, Organization of Force", said new section to
be known as Section 876A and to follow immediately after
Section 876 of said Article, providing for an increase in pay
for all Baltimore City Police Department employees.
