CHAPTER 827.
(House Bill 691)
AN ACT to add a new section to the Prince George's County
Code (1943 Edition—being Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's County",
sub-title "County Commissioners", to be under sub-head-
ing "Property Clerk", said new section to be known as Sec-
tion 393A and to follow immediately after Section 393 of
said Code and Article, providing for the appointment of a
property clerk and prescribing his duties and powers.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to the Prince
George's County Code (1943 Edition—being Article 17 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "County Commissioners", to be under sub-
heading "Property Clerk", said new section to be known as
Section 393A, to follow immediately after Section 393 of said
Code and Article, and to read as follows:
393A. (a) The County Commissioners are authorized and
empowered to appoint a property clerk, at an annual salary
not to exceed One Thousand ($1, 000. 00) Dollars, payable
monthly. The said clerk shall, before entering upon his duties,
give bond in an amount to be fixed by the Commissioners, but
not less than One Thousand ($1, 000. 00) Dollars.
The Commissioners shall provide a suitable and adequate
place in some one central location, preferably in the Court
House in Upper Marlboro, for the safe-keeping of property,
where all property in the custody of the clerk shall be kept.
(b) The said clerk shall keep a complete record, in a book
to be furnished by the Commissioners for the purpose, of all
property and money coming into his possession under the pro-
visions of this sub-heading1, said record to include, among
other pertinent information, - the name of the person delivering
property to him, the date of delivery, name of the owner, if
known, and detailed information concerning the circumstances
under which the property came into possession of the, deliver-
ing party.
(c) Every. member of the county police force, the sheriff and
all deputies, the county medical examiner, and all other law
enforcement officers and public officials shall, within forty-
eight hours, deliver to the property clerk for immediate regis-
tering in the property record book all property and money
coming into their possession in any manner whatever by reason
of their official duties; the said clerk shall give a receipt for and
retain all such property, except as otherwise hereinafter pro-
vided.
