the performance of such duties as the Commission may
authorize and direct. Direct financial relief, under this
Act, shall be limited to Veterans or the chronically sick,
disabled or indigent widows or infant children of veterans
who have been residents of Maryland for at least one year
immediately prior to the date of their application for such
relief, and providing no compensation is being received
from any other state or country.
The Maryland Veterans Commission shall make and pre-
serve a permanent registry of the graves of all persons who
served in the military or naval forces of the United States
in time of war, and who are buried in the State of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That a new Section
be added to said Article 96% of the Annotated Code of
Maryland, to be known as Section 7, to follow immediately
after Section 6 hereof, said new Section to read as follows:
7. The principal office and Service Center of the Mary-
land Veterans Commission shall be maintained in the City
of Baltimore, and such additional Service Centers as in the
discretion of said Commission may be deemed necessary or
advisable in order to facilitate and expedite the servicing
of the claims of male, and female veterans, as set forth in
this Act, shall be established, equipped, maintained and
operated elsewhere in said City and in the State of Mary-
land at such places as may, from time to time, be desig-
nated by said Commission, and the Commission shall have
the right to discontinue any additional Service Center
which it no longer deems necessary. In designating the
locations of such additional Service Centers, said Commis-
sion shall endeavor to locate same centrally in the areas
to be served, to the end that the greatest possible number
of such male and female veterans therein may have access
thereto with the least possible delay, travel and incon-
venience, and to the end that they may, so far as is pos-
sible so to do, receive personal attention.
At said principal office and Service Center, and at such
additional Service Centers as may be established, as herein
provided, the Maryland Veterans Commission, in addition
to its other duties as set forth in this Act, shall furnish
information for the benefit of such male and female vet-
erans, and shall, as far as possible, coordinate its efforts
with those of all other appropriate agencies, so as to avoid
overlapping of effort, and to make available, if possible, at
one location, or in one general local area, complete infor-
mation to such male and female veterans on all problems
pertaining to Veterans' affairs.
