CHAPTER 335.

CHAP. 335.

AN ACT to establish a uniform system of public
schools in Allegany county, and to repeal the
one hundred and forty-seventh, one hundred and
forty-eighth, one hundred and forty-ninth, one
hundred and fiftieth, one hundred and fifty-first,
one hundred and fifty-second, one hundred and
fifty-third, one hundred and fifty-fourth, one
hundred and fifty-fifth, one hundred and fifty-
sixth, one hundred and fifty-seventh,. one hun-
dred and fifty-eighth, one hundred and fifty-
ninth, one hundred and sixtieth, one hundred
and sixty-first, one hundred and sixty-second,
one hundred and sixty-third, one hundred and
sixty-fourth, one hundred and sixty-fifth, one
hundred and sixty-sixth, one hundred and sixty-
seventh, one hundred and sixty-eighth and one
hundred and sixty-ninth sections of article first
of the Public Local Laws, relating to Allegany
county.

Passed March
1, 1860.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That it shall be lawful for the Or-
phan's court of Allegany county to appoint an-
nually, in each and every year, on the first Tuesday
in May, five commissioners of public schools, who
shall collectively be entitled the board of commis-
sioners of public schools of Allegany county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Orphans'
court of said county shall give notice to said par-
ties so appointed of their appointment, and each of
the school commissioners so appointed shall hold
his office for the term of one year, and until his
successor shall be duly appointed and qualified in

manner aforesaid; and in case any vacancy shall
occur in the said board of commissioners by death,
resignation or otherwise, the same shall be filled
by the Orphans' court aforesaid at their next suc-
ceeding meeting after such vacancy shall have oc-
curred, or as soon thereafter as practicable, and
each of said commissioners of public schools, be-
fore he shall proceed to act as such, shall take the
oath of office prescribed by the constitution of this
