in the month of March of each and every year as
aforesaid, to select the names of seven hundred and
fifty persons, qualified under the law of this State,
to serve as grand and petit jurors in said city.

CHAP. 308.

SEC. 2. In order to assist the said judges in ma-
king out the list of jurors aforesaid, the collector of
taxes of the city of Baltimore, shall before the first
day of February in each and every year, lodge with
the clerk of the Superior court of said city, for the
use of said judges, a certified list of all the taxable
male inhabitants of the said city; setting out their
names and places of residence so far as the same
may be ascertained; and the said collector shall
receive for such service a compensation to be fixed
by said judges, and shall be paid as jurors are now
paid.

SEC. 3. The said judges having prepared the said
list, shall meet in such one of the court rooms of
the city of Baltimore as they shall appoint, at such
time or times, not less than ten days before the be-
ginning of the May term of the Superior court for
Baltimore city; and shall cause (all) the names se-
lected by the judges, as aforesaid, to be inscribed
upon ballots which shall be folded and placed in a
box prepared for that purpose; and the said judges
shall cause the sheriff of Baltimore city, or such one
of his deputies as he shall designate to appear be-
fore them; and it shall be the duty of the said
sheriff, or of his said deputy as aforesaid, in the
presence of the said judges, or in the presence of
such other persons as may choose to attend in said
court, to draw one by one all the ballots contained
in the said box, and as the said ballots are drawn
the names appearing thereon, shall be duly re-
corded by the said judges, or by some person
under their direction in the order in which they are
drawn.

SEC. 4. The twenty-three names first drawn shall
constitute the grand jury for the city of Baltimore,
for the ensuing term of the Criminal court of said
city.

SEC. 5. The twenty-five names next in order on
the said list shall constitute the jurors for the Su-
perior court for Baltimore city for the three weeks
to ensue after the commencement of the next term
of the said court.
