SHALL EACH BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE AN ANNUAL
SALARY OF SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6,000).
[(d)] (m) (l) The salaries of the Clerks of Courts shall be
payable semi-monthly from the fees, receipts and emoluments
of the office, after first deducting therefrom the necessary ex-
penses of the office, including salaries of deputies and clerks,
books, stationery, office supplies and other necessary and cus-
tomary expenses of doing business. If there shall be any ex-
cess of the fees, receipts and emoluments of the office in any
year, after deduction of expenses and salaries, including that
of the Clerk, all such excess shall be paid to the Treasurer of
the State. If the fees and receipts of the office shall be insuf-
ficient in any year to pay all or any part of the authorized sal-
ary of any Clerk, the deficiency shall be paid to the said Glerk
by the Comptroller from funds provided for that purpose in
the State budget.
The Clerks of Court of Baltimore City and of the several
counties shall, respectively, devote their full working time to
the duties of their office.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1950.

(House Bill 4)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
770 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments/7 sub-title
"Department of Correction," providing for diminution of
period of confinement of prisoners for satisfactory industry,
application and progress in vocational and other educa-
tional and training courses.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 770 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punish-
