CHAPTER 663.
(House Bill 755)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 2 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne
Arundel County", sub-title "Annapolis", said new section to
be known as Section 86A, and to follow immediately after
Section 86 of said Article, providing for the licensing and
regulation of taxicabs and their owners and operators in the
City of Annapolis by the Mayor, Counselor and Aldermen of
said City and providing penalties for violations of such
regulations.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 2
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Annapolis", said new
section to be known as Section 86A, and to follow immediately
after Section 86 of said Article, and to read as follows:
86A. The Mayor, Counselor, and Aldermen of the City of
Annapolis are hereby authorized and empowered to enact
ordinances providing for licensing and prescribing regulations
for the operation of taxicabs in said City and for the registra-
tion and fixing requirements for the owners and operators of
taxicabs to protect the safety, health and general welfare of
said City and its residents, citizens and occupants, provided
said regulations are not in conflict with the laws of the State
of Maryland, and regulations adopted by the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles.
The violation of any of the provisions of such ordinance or
ordinances shall be considered a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof before a trial magistrate of said County, or
other competent Court, the offender shall be subject to a fine
of not exceeding $20. 00 for each offense and in default of pay-
ment of the fine, to imprisonment for not exceeding 30 days.
The word "taxicabs" when used in this section shall mean a
taxicab as defined in Section 361 of Article 23 of the Public
General Laws of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
