prescribe his salary, which shall be paid in equal monthly
instalments. In counties in which provision is made by the
County Commissioners for clerical assistants, except Alle-
gany County, the trial magistrates shall direct and supervise
the services to be rendered by said assistants.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 13
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Criminal
Jurisdiction", as said section was amended by Chapter 689
of the Acts of 1941, providing for a uniform method of trial
and appeal of all offenses, crimes, misdemeanors and prosecu-
tions for the recovery of any fine or penalty, with certain
exceptions, and providing for the repeal of all laws incon-
sistent therewith.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
Maryland, That Section 13 of Article 52 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-
title "Criminal Jurisdiction", as said section was amended by
Chapter 689 of the Acts of 1941, be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so as to read as
follows:
13. The several Trial Magistrates of the State of
Maryland (except in the City of Baltimore) are hereby
vested with, and. shall have hereafter jurisdiction to hear,
try and determine all cases involving the charge of any
offense, crime or misdemeanor, not punishable by confinement
in the Penitentiary or involving a felonious intent, which may
be committed within their respective counties; and shall have
jurisdiction to hear, try and determine all prosecutions or pro-
ceedings for the recovery of any penalty for doing or omitting
to do any act within their respective counties, the doing of
which or the omission to do which, is made punishable under
the laws of this State by any pecuniary fine or penalty, or by
imprisonment in jail or in the Maryland House of Correction,
all of which acts or omissions are hereby declared to be criminal
