the Mayor, for the appointment of judges of election for
each precinct, and for the clarification of said Section.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section, 265 of Article 22 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Washington
County", sub-title "Hagerstown", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
265. The members of the Board of Supervisors of
Election of the City of Hagerstown holding office of June 1,
1943, or their successors, shall continue in office until the
first Monday in November in the year 1948, and thereafter,
the Governor shall appoint, not later than the first Monday
in November in the year 1948 and every four years there-
after, from a list of six persons submitted by the Mayor,
three persons residents and voters of the City of Hagers-
town, two of whom shall always be selected from the leading
political parties of the City of Hagerstown, one from each
of the parties, who shall be men of approved integrity and
capacity, and none of them shall hold office or employment
under the Government of the United States or of the State
of Maryland, and they must not be candidates for office
at the next ensuing municipal election in the City of Ha-
gerstown, or at any municipal election in said city, within
the term for which they or any of them were appointed,
who. shall be styled the Board of Supervisors of Election
of the City of Hagerstown; each of said Supervisors shall
hold office for the term of four years accounting from the
first Monday of November in the year of their appointment,
and shall exercise the powers and perform the duties here-
inafter set forth; in case of a vacancy occurring in said
Board, such vacancy shall be filled by the Governor as soon
as possible; it shall be the duty of said board not later than
the fifteenth day of December of the year following their
appointment, to appoint two persons for each precinct of
said City of Hagerstown, who shall be residents and voters
of the ward in which such precinct is situated, and who
shall be judges of election for such precinct from the time
of their appointment and until new appointments shall have
been made; and it shall be the duty of said Board in making
the appointment of such judges of election to select at least
one of the said judges for each precinct from each of the
leading political parties; if any of the said judges shall die,
resign or remove out of the ward in which the precinct for
which he was appointed is situated, or become otherwise, in
the opinion of said Board, disqualified to act as such judge
of election, then the Board of Supervisors of Election of the
City of Hagerstown shall appoint a person as judge for
