shall cause to be advertised in two newspapers published
in Cambridge, one of which shall be a daily newspaper, if
there be a daily newspaper published in said town, the
names of the persons who have filed statements of their
candidacy and has deposited the filing fee of $5. 00 as here-
inbefore provided, designating the office for which such
person is a candidate and the ward in which such person
is a candidate if the office is one to be filled by the voters
of a single ward and if the office is one to be filled by the
voters of the entire town, voting by wards, the said adver-
tisement shall so state. The Supervisor of Elections shall
at least two days prior to the date of said town election
prepare the ballots for such primary elections, which bal-
lots shall be authenticated by a facsimile of his signature,
and no ballots other than those so authenticated shall be
used at said election, and he shall deliver to the Judges of
said election at the polling place in each ward wherein
said election is to be held the registries of voters and a
number of ballots equal to twice the number of registered
voters in the ward in which such polling place is located,
to be furnished to the voters upon application at the respec-
tive polling places. The ballots shall be printed upon plain,
substantial white paper in fair, legible type, and shall be
headed "Primary Ballot", and the names of the candidates
for the respective offices thereon shall be arranged in alpha-
betical order, and upon each group of names shall appear
the words "Vote for One", and after the name of each can-
didate shall be a square in which the voter may make a
cross-mark for the candidate of his choice. In other re-
spects, the form and arrangement shall be in the discretion
of the Commissioners of Cambridge, except that nothing
deceptive or calculated to mislead a voter shall be allowed
to be printed upon said ballots, and sample ballots furnished
by the candidates themselves or printed by the Commis-
sioners of Cambridge, and advertised in the newspapers,
if in the discretion of said Commissioners the cost of such
printing and advertising be wise and judicious shall be
freely allowed to the voters. The persons who are quali-
fied to vote at the general election shall be qualified to vote
at the primary election, and challenges can be made by not
more than two persons to be appointed at the time of the
opening of the polls by the judges of election, or such chal-
lenge shall be made in person by the candidate themselves.
Upon the closing of the polls the judges of election shall
immediately count the ballots and ascertain the number
of votes cast in each ward or polling place for each of the
candidates, and make return thereof to the Supervisor of
Elections, at the City Hall, upon blanks to be furnished by
said Supervisor of Elections before the noon hour of the
