for not more than one year, or pay a fine not exceeding
one thousand dollars ($1, 000. 00), or both such fine and
imprisonment in the discretion of the Court.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 119.
(Senate Bill 203)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
292 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
1939 Edition, title "Elections", sub-title "Voting Ma-
chines", sub-section "Montgomery County", providing
for the elimination of clerks of election when voting
machines are used, and for the use of paper ballots and
employment of clerks when voting machines are un-
obtainable or inadequate.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 292 of Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, 1939 Edition, title "Elections", sub-title
"Voting Machines, " sub-section "Montgomery County", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments
to read as follows:

292. In the polling places or precincts where voting ma-
chines are required to be used by the provisions of this Act,
such elections in such polling places shall be conducted by
the four (4) judges of election whose appointment is else-
where provided for under the terms of this article and for
such polling places in such precincts no clerks of election
shall be appointed. Provided, however, that nothing herein
contained shall prevent the use of paper ballots in polling
places for which said Supervisors have not available or are
unable to procure voting machines; and in the event that
the number of names or questions submitted for vote at
any election is too large for practicable use of voting ma-
chines, then the Board of Supervisors of Elections of
Montgomery County may supply paper ballots in the usual
form for use in all precincts and districts of said county,
and in such polling places where paper ballots may be used
as aforesaid, elections shall be conducted in all respects in
accordance with the provisions of said Article 33 relating
