laws relating to the licensing of dogs in Anne Arundel
County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted Ity the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 256A, 256E, 256K and 256-O of Article 2
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Dogs", as said sec-
tions were enacted by Chapter 255 of the Acts of 1939, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
256A. Creation of Dog Wardens and Authority to Contract
Enforcement of Licensing. The Board of County Commis-
sioners of Anne Arundel County may establish and maintain
one or more dog pounds or shelters in the county for the
impounding of dogs under the provisions of this Act, the ex-
pense for construction and maintenance of which r5hall be paid
out of the Pound Fund, and shall create the office of Dog
Warden and at its first meeting in January each year, shall
appoint one or more persons to this office to act as dog license
enforcement officers in the various election districts assigned
to them. Such Wardens shall have all the power of a constable
or other peace officer in the execution of the provisions of this
Act, including the service of summons, the suing out and
service of a warrant of arrest or of replevin for a dog; to
make arrests, and to prosecute charges in connection with
unlawful acts or violations relating to or growing out of such
enforcement.
Beginning in January each year, Wardens shall make a
complete canvass of the election district for which they are
appointed and shall compile a census, in a book furnished by
the County Treasurer, showing the names and addresses of
every household in each district with the name of each member
of a household that owns or harbors a dog and stating the
number and approximate age and description of each dog
and at the time of call shall acquaint the owner with the
provisions of the licensing Act and demand immediate com-
pliance therewith.
As full compensation for making a complete canvass and
compiling such dog census and during the first week of March
submitting the same to the County Treasurer for inspection
and stamping after the last entry therein, the Warden shall
receive 25% of all money when the same is paid in to the
Treasurer for licenses covering dogs listed in his census or
any supplements thereto filed by him before any such addi-
tional dogs are licensed.
Immediately after such census book is stamped by the
County Treasurer, the Warden shall check up on all licenses
