Maryland", and to repeal Section 1 of Article 2A of said
Code, title "Agriculture", and to enact in lieu thereof a new
Section 1 of said Article, relating to the Board of Regents
of the University of Maryland and the State Board of Agri-
culture.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 2 of Chapter 372 of the Acts of 1916, be
and it is hereby repealed.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 235 of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition),
title "Public Education", sub-title "University of Maryland",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments
to read as follows:
235. (a) The University of Maryland, incorporated by the
Act of 1812, Chapter 159, as amended and supplemented by
the Act of 1882, Chapter 88, be and the same is merged and
consolidated with the Maryland State College of Agriculture,
incorporated by the Act of 1916, Chapter 372, and that the
name of the consolidated corporation shall be the University
of Maryland.
(b) The government of the University of Maryland
shall be vested in the Board of Regents of the University
of Maryland. The Board shall consist of eleven mem-
bers, citizens of this State, who shall be appointed by
the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
Senate. They shall serve without compensation but shall be
paid their reasonable and necessary expenses while engaged in
the discharge of their official duties. The nine members of the
existing Board shall serve for the terms for which appointed,
and the two additional members shall be appointed for
original terms of seven and nine years, respectively, from
the first Monday in June, 1941; thereafter, terms of all mem-
bers shall be for nine years from the first Monday in June.
Members appointed to fill vacancies occurring during a term
shall serve for the remainder of the term. The two addi-
tional members first appointed and their successors shall be
selected from lists of nominees, which shall be submitted to
the Governor by the Maryland State Grange and the Mary-
land Farm Bureau, respectively, and shall contain the names
of at least two nominees for each office to be filled.
(c) The Board of Regents shall exercise with reference to
the University of Maryland and with reference to every depart-
ment of same, all the powers, rights and privileges, and be
charged with all the duties and obligations which now apper-
tain to them, with reference to the Maryland State College of
