332B. Within the area in Bethesda District as described
in Section 30 of Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Montgomery County (1939 Edition), the fire department
receiving the tax levy therein authorized shall have primary
responsibility and authority in fire protection.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 784.
(House Bill 501)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 918
of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition), title "Balti-
more City", sub-title "Police Examiners", relating to leave
of the members of the police force.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 918 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edi-
tion), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Examiners", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

918. The said Police Commissioner is authorized, empow-
ered and directed to grant leave of absence, with pay, for a
period of fifty days in each year to each of the officers of police,
policemen and detectives of the regular force employed by the
said Commissioner, nor shall any enforced absence with leave
on account of sickness or death be deducted from the pay of
any such officer of police, policeman or detective, or from their
fifty days leave, as herein provided.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect January 1, 1942.
