HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 1317

Supervisors of Election, the Commissioner shall appoint a
qualified person to fill said vacancy.

The third Monday and the third Friday in the month of
April, preceding the biennial election, are hereby designated
as days of registration, and the supervisors of election shall
give public notice, at least ten days prior to said Monday, by
not less than ten printed or written notices posted at con-
spicuous places in said Town, stating the place and the hours
during which they will sit for the purpose of registering quali-
fied voters provided said supervisors shall sit not less than six
hours on each of said days, to be arranged by them, to best
suit the public convenience.

Each of said supervisors shall be furnished by the Commis-
sioners, prior to the first registration under this Act, with a
well bound registration book in which book there shall be pro-
vided spaces for the name of each person registering, his age,
color, actual place of residence and date of registration, and
a space where each person registering shall sign his or her
name, or in which his or her mark shall be made if he or she
is unable to write. Said books shall be returned to the Town
Commissioners within three days after each election, and such
books shall thereupon become the official registration books of
the Town and shall be delivered to the supervisors of the elec-
tion the day preceding the next registration. The supervisors,
acting as registration officials, shall swear each applicant for
registration, and if upon the examination of such applicant,
it appears to both of them that such applicant is a qualified
voter, in accordance with Section 41 hereof, they shall each
register his name in said registration books; and all persons
so registered shall be entitled to vote at Town elections so
long as the names appear upon such registration books.

The supervisors of election, acting as registration officials,
on the first of said registration days, whenever an affidavit is
made before them by a registered voter of said Town, that
any name upon said books is not entitled to be thereupon,
shall note said name and shall by placing in the United States
mail, on said first registration day, addressed to said voter at
the place of residence set out in said registration books, post-
age prepaid, a notice that his name has been noted for striking
off and that they will act thereon at a fixed time on the sec-
ond day of registration, and at the time fixed the said super-
visors shall determine, after hearing such evidence as may be
presented, whether such name shall be stricken off, and in the
event they shall determine that the name shall be stricken
off, they shall strike such name by running a line in red ink
through such name and noting thereon the day of striking;
and no person whose name is thus stricken off shall be entitled
to vote in said Town elections.
