SEC. 2. And 'be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1941.

CHAPTER 637.
(House Bill 46)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 214
of Article 48A of Flack's Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "Fraternal Beneficial
Associations", relating to the exemption of certain societies
from the operation of fraternal beneficiary laws.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 214 of Article 48A of Flack's Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title
"Fraternal Beneficial Associations", be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

214. Exemptions. (1) Nothing contained in this Act shall
be construed to affect or apply to (a) grand or subordinate
lodges of Masons, Odd Fellows or Knights of Pythias (exclu-
sive of the insurance department of the Supreme Lodge,
Knights of Pythias), and the Junior Order of United Amer-
ican Mechanics (exclusive of the beneficiary degree or insur-
ance branch of the National Council Junior Order United
American Mechanics);

(b) orders, societies or associations which admit to mem-
bership only persons engaged in one or more crafts or haz-
ardous occupations, in the same or similar lines of business,
and women's societies or women's auxiliaries operating in
conjunction with such orders, societies or associations;

(c) domestic societies which limit their membership to em-
ployees of a particular city or town, designated firm, business
house or corporation which provide for a death benefit of not
more than four hundred dollars or disability benefits of not
more than three hundred fifty dollars to any person in any one
year, or both;

(d) domestic societies or associations of a purely religious,
charitable and benevolent description, which provide for a
death benefit of not more than four hundred dollars or for
disability benefits of not more than three hundred fifty dollars
to any one person in any one year, or both.

(2) Any such society or association described in classes
(c) or (d) of Sub-section (1) which provides for death or
