behalf of this State a compact with representatives of
other states for the purpose of forming the above men-
tioned commission and creating a Potomac Valley Con-
servancy District; providing for the appointment of the
Maryland members of said commission and their terms
of office, and providing an appropriation to said com-
mission from the State of Maryland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That a new section be and is hereby added to
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland 1935 Sup-
plement, titled "Health" sub-titled "Water, Ice and Sewer-
age", said new section to be known as Section 348 and to
follow immediately after Section 347 of said Article and
to read as follows:

348. There is hereby created a Commission consisting
of three members to act jointly with commissions appointed
for like purposes by the State of West Virginia, the Com-
monwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia, and the District
of Columbia, and an additional three members to be ap-
pointed by the President of the United States and which,
together with the other commissions appointed as herein-
before mentioned, shall constitute and be known as the
Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin. The
said Commission for the State of Maryland shall consist
of the Governor of the State and two members to be named
by the Governor, who shall be actual residents in the Po-
tomac River Drainage Basin. The terms of the members
appointed by the Governor shall be two years, the first of
such appointments of two members to be made on June 1,
1939, and they shall serve without compensation, but shall
be paid their actual expenses incurred in and incident to
the performance of their duties as hereinafter set forth.
This State shall contribute to the Interstate Commission
on the Potomac River Basin its pro-rata share of the
expenses of said Commission, which shall be such sums as
may be appropriated for the purpose in the State Budget,
but not less than the sum of three thousand dollars,
($3, 000) per year for the two years next succeeding the
passage of this Act.

The Governor of the State is hereby authorized and di-
rected to execute a compact on behalf of the State of
Maryland with the other States and the District herein-
above referred to, who may by their legislative bodies so
authorize a compact in form substantially as follows:
