CERTIFICATE
STATE OF MARYLAND
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE
To the Clerk of the Court of Appeals:
I, E. RAY JONES, SECRETARY OF STATE OF THE STATE OF
MARYLAND, pursuant to the direction contained in Chapter
441 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1922, DO HEREBY
CERTIFY, That at the General Election held in this State on
Tuesday, November 8th, 1938, An Act, known as Chapter 91
of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1937, was submitted
to the voters of the State of Maryland for their adoption or
rejection, under provisions of Article 16 of the Constitution
of the State, said Act being:
An Act to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
5 of Article 62 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1024
Edition), title "Marriages" to fix the time within which
marriage licenses may be issued, the purpose being to
require a forty-eight hour waiting period between the
application for marriage license and the performance
of the ceremony.
AND I DO CERTIFY, That at said election 167, 122 votes were
cast in favor of the adoption of said Chapter 91 of the Acts
of 1937, and 57, 369 votes were cast against the adoption of
said Act, in the State of Maryland; and a majority being in
favor of the adoption thereof, it was thereby ratified by the
voters of said State, and is effective December 8th, 1938.
