HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 1711

Resolved, That the said Commission shall prepare a report
covering any and all subjects considered by it during the
years 1939 and 1940, which said report shall be submitted to
the Governor, not later than December 31st, 1940, and said
report shall contain a draft or drafts of bills in conformity
with its recommendations, and said report, together with
said bills shall be submitted by the Governor to the General
Assembly of 1941.

NO. 17.

(Senate Joint Resolution 13)

A Joint Resolution requesting the State Conservation Com-
mission to prevent erosion on St. Clement's Island.

WHEREAS, the first colonists of Maryland landed on St.
Clement's Island in the Potomac River, which island is now
a part of St. Mary's County; and

WHEREAS, this island is a historical landmark sacred to all
true Marylanders; and

WHEREAS, this island also symbolizes freedom and religious
tolerance for a cross was erected to those ideals by the first
Maryland settlers on this island; therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
State Conservation Commission be and is hereby requested
to protect the Island of St. Clement's from destruction by
the waters of the Potomac River and to take suitable steps to
prevent further erosion upon said island.

(House Joint Resolution 31)

A Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to designate the
second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

WHEREAS, The service rendered to the United States by our
