Section 406B. (a) It shall be the duty of the Board
of Police Examiners to ascertain by appropriate inves-
tigation the qualifications of all candidates for appoint-
ment or promotion in the Anne Arundel County Police
Department and to furnish upon request to the Chief
of Police of Anne Arundel County lists of those whom
they shall deem qualified for appointment or promotion
arranged in the order of their respective qualifications as
disclosed by such examination, provided, however, they
shall not place upon such list the name of any person who
shall be less than twenty-four years or more than forty
years of age for appointments to such force and the name
of any person under thirty years or more than fifty years
of age for promotions, and said examination shall be con-
ducted by and under definite rules to be adopted by said ex-
amining Board from time to time and when so adopted to
be recorded among the records of the County Commis-
sioners of Anne Arundel County before the holding of each
and every examination to which they shall be made ap-
plicable.
(b) The said Chief of Police shall have control and
supervision over the other members of said Police Depart-
ment and shall assign the members thereof to such duties
and to such hours as he may deem necessary, and shall
make such rules and regulations for the proper government
and discipline of the members of said Police Department
and for the operation of said Department as he may deem
best to promote the efficiency of said Department, subject,
however, to the approval, revisionary power, and general
supervision and control of the Board of Police Examiners.
A copy of such rules and regulations shall be furnished
to each officer, and whenever any addition or change
is made in such rules and regulations a copy of such
addition or change shall be provided for each officer
and each officer shall maintain a complete set of
said rules and regulations together with all additions
and changes thereto, and shall familiarize himself there-
with. The Chief of Police may, in his discretion,
suspend without pay any member of the Department for
not more than thirty days for breach of discipline or in-
subordination; any officer so suspended may appeal to the
Board of Police Examiners.
406BB. The County Commissioners are hereby author-
ized to establish a Bureau of Identification, which shall be
under the direct control and supervision of a sergeant
of said Police Department. The County Commissioners
shall provide for the incidental expenses for supplies neces-
