SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1939.

(House Bill 746)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
483A of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1935
Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title
"Sabbath Breaking", authorizing the playing of basketball
and the operation of bowling alleys, ten pin alleys or duck
pin alleys and swimming pools in Hagerstown during cer-
tain hours on Sunday.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 483A of Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1935 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments", sub-title "Sabbath Breaking", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

483A. Nothing contained in Section 483 of this Article,
however, shall be construed as prohibiting, penalizing or mak-
ing unlawful the playing of basketball or the operation of any
bowling alley, ten pin alley or duck pin alley or swimming
pool, between the hours of 1 P. M. and 6 P. M. on Sunday, with
or without a charge or fee, or the playing, within the corpo-
rate limits of the City of Hagerstown, on the first day of the
week, commonly called Sunday, of games of baseball by any
person or persons who engage therein as an occupation, pur-
suit or business, whether the same be played for recreation or
admission to said games be charged; provided, however, that
it shall be unlawful for any person or persons who engage
therein as an occupation, pursuit or business, to play said
games of baseball on the first day of the week, commonly
called Sunday, within the corporate limits of the City of Ha-
gerstown, except between the hours of 2 P. M. and 5 P. M., or
to play said games of baseball within one hundred (100) yards
of any existing permanent church edifice where religious serv-
ices are being held.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1939.
