CHAPTER 597.
(House Bill 733)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Sections
266 and 279 of Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wicomico County", sub-
title "Salisbury", and to repeal Section 267 of Article 23 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Wicomico County", sub-title "Salisbury", providing
for the election of the Clerk to the Council, Collector of
City Taxes and Treasurer, and providing for a referendum
thereon.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Sections 266 and 279 of Article 23 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wi-
comico County", sub-title "Salisbury", be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

266. (a) It shall be the duty of the Mayor and Council of
Salisbury to provide for each City and Primary Election a
suitable place or places for voting in each precinct, suitable
ballot boxes and ballots in the form and arranged as pro-
vided in Section 63 of Article 33, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1924 Edition), as amended by Chapter 232 of the
Acts of 1937 (Regular Session), except that such ballots shall
contain the name of every candidate whose nomination has
been certified to and filed according to the provisions of this
Act.

(b) No person shall be a candidate for any public office in
the government of the City of Salisbury unless such person
shall be nominated either by a primary election held as here-
inafter provided or by petition in conformity with the re-
quirements herein.

(c) A candidate for a public office in the government of the
City of Salisbury shall be deemed to have been nominated by
petition when he, or someone in his behalf, shall file, at least
ten days prior to the time for holding the election at which
he desires to be voted on, with the Clerk of Salisbury a certifi-
cate signed by at least two hundred qualified voters contain-
ing the name of the candidate, a statement of his political
affiliation, a statement of the office which he seeks, and a
statement that the persons signing the same intend to vote
for the person named therein for the office named therein. A
candidate for a public office in the government of the City of
Salisbury shall be deemed to have been nominated by pri-
mary election when he, or someone in his behalf., shall file, at
