646                         LAWS OF MARYLAND.                  [CH. 243

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 212 and 214 of Article 12 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Garrett County, " sub-title "Grantsville, " be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

212. Said Mayor and Council shall have power to pass
all ordinances not contrary to the constitution and laws of the
State, as it may deem necessary for the good government of the
town; for the protection and preservation of the town's prop-
erty rights and privileges; for the preservation of peace and
good order and securing persons and property from violence,
danger or destruction; for the protection of health, comfort and
convenience of the citizens of Grantsville and visitors thereto
or sojourners therein; for providing proper and suitable lights
upon the streets; to regulate the location and management of
starch factories, glue factories, bone factories, soap factories,
hide houses, tanneries, slaughter houses, breweries, distilleries,
livery stables and all other establishments of which the business
or trade may become noxious or injurious to public comfort or
health; to prohibit the erection of such buildings or the contin-
uance of such noxious, injurious occupations therein, wherever
the public comfort or health requires it; to prevent or regulate
the use and sale of firearms, fireworks, bonfires, or other things
or practices tending to endanger persons or property; to regu-
late and prohibit the running at large of cattle, horses or
swine, fowls, sheep, goats, dogs or other animals; to author-
ize the impounding, keeping, sale and redemption of such
animals when found in violation of the ordinance in such
case provided; to prevent the deposit of any unwholesome sub-
stance either on private or public property; compel its removal
to designated points, and to require slops, garbage, ashes and
other wastes or unwholesome materials to be removed to desig-
nated points, or to require the occupants of premises to place
them conveniently for removal; to compel the occupants of any
premises, buildings or outhouses situated in said town when
the same have become filthy or unwholesome, to abate or cleanse
the same, and upon failure of the owners to abate such nui-
sance, then the Council shall authorize the same to be done by
the proper public officers and to assess the expenses thereof
against such property; to regulate or prevent the storage of gun
powder, tar, pitch, coal oil, benzine, turpentine, hemp, cotton,
