mum penalty in any such ordinance not to exceed a fine in
amount of fifteen dollars ($15) or confinement in the County
Jail for a period of not more than fifteen days. Any Justice of
the Peace for Prince George's County, Maryland, may impose
such fines or penalties for the breach of such ordinances and in
default of payment he may commit the offender to confinement
for a period of not more than fifteen days in the County Jail.
No ordinance passed "by the Mayor and Council shall go into
effect until after the expiration of thirty days after its passage,
unless otherwise provided by the laws of this State. If within
thirty days from the date of its passage a petition protecting
against it signed by one-half as many voters as voted at the last
general election shall be filed with the Town Clerk-Treasurer,
such ordinance shall be suspended, and the Mayor and Coun-
cil shall reconsider it, and if it be not repealed the Mayor and
Council shall submit it to a vote of the duly qualified voters of
said town at the next election; provided however that if the next
election shall occur more than ninety days thereafter the Mayor
and Council shall call a special election for the purpose of
deciding whether such proposed ordinance shall or shall not
become a law, and the same shall become operative or repealed
by a majority of the votes cast at this election.
249. The Mayor and Town Council shall have the same
power as the State Board of Health, within the boundaries of
the said town. They may adopt and provide an efficient system
of drainage; they may adopt suitable measures for the removal
of garbage and sewage, and fix the amount to be paid therefor.
250. All roads, streets, avenues, or alleys, which are now or
shall hereafter be shown, on any plat or addition to the platted
part of said town, as public highways, and accepted by the
Mayor and Town Council as such, are hereby made and de-
clared to be public streets, avenues, and alleys of said town, and
shall be from time to time improved and repaired as the public
interest may require and the resources of the town justify.
251. The County Commissioners of Prince George's Coun-
ty, Maryland, shall annually pay over to the Clerk-Treasurer
of said town of Colmar Manor three-fourths of that proportion
of the entire taxes levied for roads and bridges imposed upon
the assessable property within the boundaries of the said town
by the County Commissioners of Prince George's County, to be:
