WHEREAS, this monument is obscured by the growth of trees
and it cannot be seen from said highway; therefore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
State Roads Commission be and it is hereby requested to con-
struct and maintain a short road or driveway to said monument
and to mark with a suitable sign the approach to said monu-
ment and to keep the trees and shrubbery cleared from around
said monument.

NO. 11.
A Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to appoint a com-
mission to inspect periodically the almshouses of the several
counties of the State and report to him on the conditions of
said institutions and inmates thereof.
WHEREAS, In pursuance of Joint Resolution No. 7 of the
General Assembly of 1929 the Governor of Maryland appointed
two commissions, one representing the counties of the Eastern
Shore and one representing the counties of the Western Shore,
to study the conditions prevailing in the almshouses of the sev-
eral counties and to report thereon to the General Assembly
of 1931, and
WHEREAS, The said commissions have submitted their re-
ports to this General Assembly, which reports indicate that
conditions prevailing in these institutions are far from satis-
factory, and
WHEREAS, The General Assembly believes that public in-
terest in the existing conditions should be stimulated to the
point that at the next session proper legislation may be enacted
to remedy the situation; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Governor be and he is hereby requested to
appoint a commission of three persons who shall periodically
inspect the almshouses of the several counties of the State for
the purpose of ascertaining the conditions of said institutions
and the inmates thereof and report their findings promptly to
the Governor.
