CHAPTER 485.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 361
of Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Cor-
porations, " sub-title "Public Service Commission, " relating
to taxicabs or other motor vehicles, used in the public trans-
portation of passengers within the State of Maryland, and
classifying such taxicabs and motor vehicles as common car-
riers, and to add six new sections regulatory of taxicabs to
said Article, to be known as 361 A, 3 6IB, 3610, 36ID, 36 IE
and 3 6IF, and to follow immediately after said Section 361
of said Article..

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 361 of Article 23 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Corporations, " sub-title "Public Ser-
vice Commission, " be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

361. This sub-title shall apply to taxicabs used in the pub-
lic transportation of passengers within the State of Maryland;
and said taxicabs are hereby classified as common carriers, and,
as such, are hereby made subject to the jurisdiction and author-
ity of the Public Service Commission of Maryland, and to all
the provisions of Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land, title "Corporations, " sub-title "Public Service Commis-
sion, " relating to common carriers, and to all other provisions
of the: laws of the State of Maryland relating to common car-
riers so far as the provisions of said Article, title and sub-title,
and of said other provisions of said laws of the State of Mary-
land may be reasonably applicable to taxicabs. The term "tax-
icab" shall embrace any motor vehicle for hire, designed to
carry seven persons or less, including driver, operated upon any
public street or highway in this State, or, on call or demand,
accepting or soliciting passengers indiscriminately for trans-
portation for hire between such points along public streets or
highways in this State, as may be directed by the passenger or
passengers so being transported; provided that nothing in this
sub-title shall be construed to include as a taxicab, a motor vehi-
cle operated, with the approval of the Public Service Commis-
sion, on fixed routes and schedules.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That six new sections
are hereby added to Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
