in Prince George's County, once in each of three succes-
sive weeks, and give notice in said advertisement that on
a day to be named therein not later than one month from
the date of the first insertion therein, he will sell the
properties therein named to the highest bidder for cash.
All properties so sold may be redeemed by the owner there-
of or his assigns within two years of said date of sale, and
in the event of the nonredemption of the same as herein
provided, the Mayor and Council shall deliver to the pur-
chaser thereof a deed for said property so sold and the
said deed so given shall be presumptive evidence that all
the requirements of the law have been complied with in
making such sale, and for this purpose the said Treasurer
is hereby clothed with all the powers possessed by collec-
tors of taxes under the Code of Public General Laws.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public safety and health,
and being passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from
the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 16.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
9 of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1935 Supplement), title "Merit System, " relating to
credits to be allowed certain war veterans.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 9 of Article 64A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, (1935 Supplement), title "Merit Sys-
tem, " be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments to read as follows:

9. Examinations held by the Commissioner to establish
lists of persons eligible for appointment may be written
or oral or in the form of a demonstration of skill or any
combination of these and shall be of a character fairly to
test and determine the relative figures and ability of candi-
