CHAPTER 99.
AN ACT, to amend Section 63 of Article 1A of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland (Flack's 1930 Edi-
tion), title "City of Cumberland, " sub-title "Liens for
Taxes, " by adding a new Section thereto to follow imme-
diately after said Section 63 to be designated as Section
63A, authorizing and empowering the Mayor and City
Council of Cumberland, in its discretion, to purchase any
property, real or personal, offered for sale to enforce the
payment of any State or County taxes due thereon, or
any such property offered for sale by the City Tax Col-
lector to enforce the payment of any municipal taxes,
water rents, or any other municipal liens or assessments
due thereon, and to sell and convey or lease any property
so purchased, in its discretion, and give a valid deed or
lease therefor to the Lessee or purchaser of the same.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 63 of Article 1A of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (Flack's 1930 Edition),
title "City of Cumberland, " sub-title "Liens for Taxes, " be
and the same is hereby amended by adding a new section
thereto to immediately follow Section 63, to be known as
Section 63A and to read as follows:
SECTION 63A. The Mayor and City Council of Cumber-
land is hereby authorized and empowered, in its discretion,
to purchase any property, real or personal, offered for sale
to enforce the payment of any State or County taxes due
thereon, or any such property offered for sale by the City
Tax Collector to enforce the payment of any municipal
taxes, water rents, or any other municipal liens or assess-
ments due thereon, and to sell and convey or lease any prop-
erty so purchased, in its discretion, and give a valid deed or
lease therefor to the Lessee or purchaser of the same.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That this Act is an emergency law,
necessary for the immediate preservation of the health and
general welfare of the residents of the City of Cumberland
and three-fifths of each House of the General Assembly con-
curring therein, by yeas and nays, the same shall be effec-
tive from the date of its passage.
