SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 41, 42, 48, 49 and 50 of Article 22 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Washing-
ton County, " sub-title "Boonsboro, " as said sections were
amended by Chapter 219 of the Acts of 1904 and Chapter 137
of the Acts of 1914 be, and the same are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, and a new section added, so as to
read as follows:
41. The Burgess, by virtue of his office, shall preside at
all meetings of the Council, and in case of a tie, except in the
passage of ordinances, shall have the deciding vote. He shall
see that the ordinances of the town are faithfully executed, and
shall report to the Council at its first meeting after each an-
nual election the condition of municipal affairs; he shall have
the power of vetoing any ordinance, as hereinafter provided in
Section 56 A. The Burgess shall issue all licenses provided by
ordinance of the Burgess and Council, and pay over the same
to the Treasurer at such times as may be provided by ordinance
of the Burgess and Council, and for his services shall receive
annual salary of one hundred dollars ($100. 00).
42. The Assistant Burgess, in the absence of the Burgess,
shall preside at all meetings of the Council, and when the
Burgess is present shall have the same power as one of the
Councilmen. The Assistant Burgess and each Councilman
shall receive an annual salary of twenty-five ($25. 00) dollars,
and no other fee or compensation whatever, except as herein-
after provided by Section 50.
48. The Clerk shall keep careful and accurate minutes of
the proceedings of the Council, and record all ordinances
passed, in a book to be kept exclusively for that purpose, called
the ordinance book; keep all records, papers and documents
of the town in safe custody. He shall file all accounts and
claims presented against the town, and whenever any account
is approved and passed by the Burgess and Council, he shall
make a record of the same in a book to be kept for that pur-
pose. He shall perform such other duties as are imposed upon
him by law, ordinance or order of the Burgess and Council.
He shall be allowed a sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars
($25. 00) a year as compensation for his services, and shall
not receive any other fee or compensation whatever.
